North Pole, Alaska drug busts net four arrests

Four people were arrested Tuesday in two separate methamphetamine lab busts in North Pole, Alaska.

Sharon E. Minor, 55, and Rodney A. McIntosh, 40, were arrested on charges of three counts of second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and one count of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

The Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement obtained a warrant to search 3362 Mars Ave., Minor's home.

The charging document said investigators found a white flaky substance in plastic baggies. They also noticed a strong chemical order associated with methamphetamine manufacturing at the residence. Investigators found iodine stored in milk jugs, toluene, hydrogen peroxide, a large quantity of matches, and what appeared to be ephedrine and pseudoephedrine in solution. They also found coffee filters and syringes.

Minor said that she had purchased the ephedrine and pseudoephedrine for a severe sinus infection. McIntosh said that he bought cold tablets to relieve his cold symptoms.

McIntosh also told investigators that he handled the alleged meth lab by moving it from one house to another.

A field test on some of the flaky white substance showed a high positive reading for the probable presence of methamphetamine.

In the second North Pole, Alaska drug bust, Keith R. Hoffman, 47, and Suzanne R. Hoffman, 33, were arrested on a charge of second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Alaska investigators obtained a warrant to search 1335 Atigun Road, an address listed as the residence of both Hoffmans. There Alaska investigators discovered the same odor, over-the-counter drugs, chemicals and equipment associated with methamphetamine manufacturing. Alaska troopers conducted a field test that indicated that substance found in the home was likely methamphetamine.
